elton mayo award winner
Voice Project's Director, Dr Peter Langford was recently awarded the Elton Mayo Award for Outstanding Contributions to Industrial and Organisational Psychology (IOP) by an Early Career Psychologist. The award was announced at the IOP Conference /1st Asia Pacific Congress on Work and Organisational Psychology held in Adelaide in June 2007, at which the Voice Project team presented various research papers on the theme of managing organisations for diversity and corporate social responsibility.
The Elton Mayo Award was given in recognition of his work as an outstanding example of research-based practice and practice-driven research. His original contributions to knowledge in the field are evidenced by 30 publications, 33 presentations at conferences and professional forums, and supervision of the research of 46 fourth-year and postgraduate psychology students. The establishment of the Voice Project in 2002 was a direct application of IOP techniques and research. Through word-of-mouth recommendations Voice Project has grown rapidly and has now conducted over 200 projects with 100 clients, involving 250,000 employees and clients.
The award also recognised Peter's commitment to the development of students and early career psychologists through supervision, promotion, training and employment. He teaches business and psychology to Macquarie University undergraduates and postgraduates, was Director of the organisational psychology postgraduate program for three years, and was in 2006 promoted to Senior Lecturer.
